Full Job Description

We’re looking for a tech-savvy, detail-oriented Mobile Podcast Technician to support and operate mobile podcast recording setups in a variety of locations. You’ll be responsible for the technical execution of high-quality audio recordings, managing gear setup and takedown, and ensuring seamless production experiences for hosts and guests.

This role blends field recording expertise with strong troubleshooting and communication skills. You’ll be the go-to tech person making sure podcasts sound professional, regardless of the environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot mobile podcasting equipment (mics, mixers, audio interfaces, recorders, headphones, etc.)
  • Ensure clean, high-quality audio capture in a variety of environments (indoor, outdoor, live events)
  • Monitor audio levels, reduce background noise, and ensure correct mic technique during recording
  • Manage gear logistics: transport, packing, setup, takedown, and maintenance
  • Collaborate with podcast hosts, producers, and editors on-site and remotely
  • Perform basic post-production tasks (e.g., file transfers, labeling, backup, light editing)
  • Provide technical guidance and training to hosts or guests as needed
  • Stay updated on latest podcast gear and recording best practices

Requirements:

  • Proven experience with audio recording equipment and podcast production
  • Strong understanding of mobile audio gear: Zoom recorders, Rode, Shure, Focusrite, etc.
  • Familiarity with DAWs (Audacity, Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or similar)
  • Comfort working independently in the field and solving tech issues on the fly
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours (evenings, weekends, depending on recordings)
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to transport gear (vehicle is a plus)

Preferred:

  • Experience recording live events, interviews, or panel discussions
  • Knowledge of acoustic treatment and portable soundproofing
  • Video or livestreaming experience is a bonus

Compensation:

  • Competitive hourly rate or project-based pay, depending on experience
  • Reimbursement for travel and gear maintenance
