Who We Are: 

Founded in 1891 by a group of visionary volunteers, The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) is Massachusetts’ premier conservation and preservation organization. The Trustees’ preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. Our properties are open to all, and we thrive by involving as many people as possible in all that we do. We aim to protect special places for future generations to enjoy in perpetuity, and have helped protect more than 50,000 acres, including 27,000+ acres on more than 120 reservations that are open to the public. What You’ll Do: 

 

The Role: 

Over the past four years, Halloween on the Hill has become an extremely popular family friendly event bringing significant awareness and visitation to Long Hil. Over 1,500 carved pumpkins are displayed creatively in throughout the trail and the large-scale sets are an audience draw. A similar event takes place at Naumkeag in Stockbridge. This event brought in over 21,000 people Long Hill in 2024.   

 

The stunning grounds of Long Hill will be filled with autumnal delights including uniquely carved pumpkins, stunning light displays, select set pieces, and beautiful fall foliage. As part of this event, we are seeking artists to help us carve several hundred faux pumpkins(made of foam and reused) in a range of styles and to support the design and creation of various Halloween sets. The selected candidates will work directly with the Property Director and Senior Regional Engagement Manager, and the work schedule is flexible. We’re happy to work with your availability.    

 

Specifically, you’ll: 

  • Carve as many pumpkins as you can handle using provided stencils. These pumpkins fit into specific areas and themes.   
  • Tap into your creative energy and fun spirit  
  • Return carved pumpkins by agreed date  
  • Assist with Scarecrow display   
  • Support the Halloween on the Hill team to produce a successful event. 

 

This is a seasonal, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Property Director and Senior Regional Engagement Manager.  

Requirements

What You’ll Need: 

 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience 
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED 
  • Nimble hands for carving  
  • Artistic skill at creating elaborate pumpkin designs  
  • Available transportation to the site  
  • Have a can do and fun attitude 

 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • The ability to skillfully and safely use carving tools  
  • Lift up to 30 pounds  
  • Push and pull heavy objects 
  • Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment. 
  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
