Position Overview:
The Field Operations Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for supporting the execution of disaster response operations in the field. Working closely with the Vice President of Field Operations (VPFO), this position oversees deployment logistics, team coordination, responder readiness, and on-the-ground problem-solving during emergency activations. The Field Operations Manager helps ensure mission success through hands-on leadership, logistical oversight, and operational continuity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the VPFO in implementing disaster deployment strategies, staffing plans, and logistics frameworks
- Lead or assist in operational setup and execution during active field deployments, including coordination with local Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), shelters, and community partners
- Supervise and support Task Force Leaders and field responders, ensuring team safety, performance, and morale
- Maintain and deploy field equipment, responder kits, vehicles, and communications tools
- Coordinate responder travel, lodging, check-in/out processes, and field schedules
- Ensure operational documentation is accurate and timely, including daily briefings, situation reports (SitReps), accountability records, and incident logs
- Assist in training and onboarding of new field personnel; help deliver just-in-time deployment training
- Participate in After-Action Reviews (AARs) and contribute to continuous improvement of field SOPs
- Monitor field compliance with safety standards, protocols, and operational guidelines
- Serve as a secondary liaison to partners and stakeholders during field activations, representing the organization professionally and effectively
- Provide surge support to field operations as needed, including extended deployments or night/weekend coverage
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (plus if Emergency Management, Public Administration, Logistics, or related field, or equivalent experience)
- 1-2 years of field-based experience in disaster response, emergency operations, logistics, or humanitarian work
- Demonstrated experience managing teams in fast-paced or high-stakes environments
- Familiarity with FEMA and ICS protocols (ICS 100 & 200 required; ICS 300 preferred)
- Strong organizational and logistical coordination skills
- Ability to remain flexible and calm in dynamic, high-pressure situations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness and availability to travel on short notice and work extended hours during disaster activations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a Supervisor or similar role in disaster operations
- Spanish language proficiency or experience working in bilingual/multicultural settings
- FEMA Disaster Case Management or behavioral health response experience
- Experience with humanitarian response, housing operations, or survivor support initiatives
